7 October 2021In anticipation of COP26, the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) has strategically launched its website. This platform will serve as a vital tool for ongoing awareness and information while effectively advancing its tactical agenda at this significant event.
PCRIC, based in the Cook Islands, is a dedicated regional provider of specialist disaster risk finance services, established by the Pacific Finance Ministers during the 2015 Forum Economic Ministers Meeting. Funded by Germany, the UK, the USA, and Japan through the World Bank, the company aims to provide immediate relief financing to Pacific Island Countries (PICs) following disasters, ultimately saving lives and facilitating a swift return to normalcy for individuals and businesses.
The new website offers a wealth of information designed to enhance understanding of disaster risk finance and insurance within the region. This launch signifies PCRIC’s evolution from focusing on infrastructure and product development to adopting a more vibrant and proactive role as a leading regional support mechanism for disaster risk management and resilience.
CEO ‘Aholotu Palu commented, “The web launch has helped integrate PCRIC into the regional coordination architecture aimed at creating political willingness and building national capacity. I encourage everyone to visit https://pcric.org/ to explore the website and learn more about our work in the Pacific region.”
Featuring an extensive array of content, the website provides a comprehensive view of finance-related challenges and disaster risk management solutions specific to the Pacific region. It effectively breaks down and simplifies complex issues, processes, and technical modeling into accessible language and concepts for stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the general public.
“It was extremely important that every one of our touchpoints—from Finance Ministers and donor agencies to national disaster organizations and the citizens of every Pacific Island nation—be able to easily access and clearly comprehend the information they need,” Mr. Palu explained.
He added, “We have some genuinely innovative plans to drive traffic to the site as we approach and participate in COP26, and we’re excited to leverage the full capacity of our burgeoning online presence.”
The PCRIC website was designed and developed by Webmedia South Pacific, an advertising and technical consulting firm based in Suva, Fiji. This agency is contracted by PCRIC as both a website (IT) developer and marketing & communications partner.
