22 June 2024PCRIC has been invited by the World Bank to attend the Understanding Risk Forum 2024 (UR24) to be held in Himeji, Japan from the 16th – 21st June. UR24 will convene governments, donors, NGOs and academics to uphold the central theme of deepening understanding of natural hazard risks to facilitate more effective action around the globes.
The PCRIC delegation includes CEO, Mr. Aholotu Palu; Strategic Advisor – Catastrophe Risk Modelling, Dr. Nicolas Pondard; Risk Manager, Mrs. Daphney Stone and Donor Coordination Consultant, Ms. Shoko Takemoto.
The delegation will be speaking in several sessions during the conference about the role of risk pools to strengthen financial resilience. Mr. Palu said that the invitation of PCRIC to such a meeting was seen as a confirmation of the increased recognition of the plight of many island nations in the Pacific which bore a disproportionately large exposure to risk in regard to climate change and increasingly frequent natural disasters.
For their part, PCRIC would use the forum to continue their advocacy for greater levels of technical and financial support toward disaster risk management in the region.
