8 July 2024PCRIC has appointed Mr. Richard Poulter as the Company’s new Chief Risk Officer, effective 1st July 2024. Mr. Poulter has been a core part of the PCRIC team since the Company was established in 2016, acting as Actuarial Advisor to the Board of Directors, the CEO and the PCRIC team in areas of risk management, product development, country engagement, and financial and operational management.
In his new role, Mr. Poulter will be responsible for ensuring executive management where the Board of Directors will have a comprehensive view of how key risks are managed and controlled across the business, in particular with regards to insurance product design, reinsurance, and capital management.
Mr. Poulter will take a leading role in engaging with PCRIC’s member countries on their insurance policies, to ensure that PCRIC offers policies which meet each country’s objectives for financial protection against key disaster risks. He will be working closely with the Risk Manager in identifying, assessing and managing the Company’s risk exposure, including advising on and implementing the Company’s reinsurance strategy, along with all aspects of capital management.
As a qualified Actuary with over ten years of experience working as an international consultant in Disaster Risk Finance, Mr. Poulter brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in financial strategies to build resilience against the impacts of natural disasters, combined with a deep knowledge of the Pacific region. Mr. Poulter has also worked with the World Bank and other international organisations alongside his role with PCRIC.
