PCRIC Meets with AFD in France

Following on from an informal meeting with Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) representatives whilst attending the 52nd Pacific Forum Leaders Meeting in the Cook Islands in November, 2023, PCRIC CEO, Mr. Aholotu Palu, and other senior representatives of PCRIC met representatives from AFD at their Headquarters in Paris, France on the 8^th October 2024.

The meeting discussed the value that PCRIC was bringing to the region regarding Disaster Risk Finance and Resilience measures, and how AFD can support pursuit of the organisation’s mission to close gaps in the provision of protection against the negative financial impact of natural disasters in the region.

With discussions giving consideration to the impact that climate change is having on the financing of development projects around the globe, the AFD showed great interest in the activities of PCRIC and the means by which the Disaster Risk Insurance and services provided by the company deliver direct benefits to Resilience and Disaster Risk Management initiatives across the Pacific Island Region.

The meeting concluded on a very positive note with both parties recognising that the ongoing need to actively support the Pacific Island nations in their resilience building endeavours, and the ever-evolving DRF ecosystem in the region meant that there was ample motivation to continue exploration of opportunities for future collaboration. The PCRIC team thanked AFD for the opportunity to engage formally and for the invitation to attend future regional events promoted by AFD which focused on climate and disaster risk financing.
