PCRIC Team Engages Vanuatu on Post-Earthquake Recovery Support
14 April 2025Earlier this month the PCRIC team, represented by Regional Coordinator Ms. Akosita Drova and Executive Assistant Ms. Nicole Powell, participated in the Global Shield against Climate Risks’ second Pacific Regional Workshop in Suva, Fiji.
The workshop demonstrated PCRIC’s ongoing partnership with the Global Shield, a key ally since receiving a significant grant at last year’s COP. Additionally, it strengthens ties with Fiji, a valued PCRIC member and policyholder, to advance climate resilience.
The two-day event convened representatives from Fiji, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and Tonga, alongside regional stakeholders, to address financial protection gaps.
Day one focused on validating a stocktaking and gap analysis report for Fiji, pinpointing priority areas to shape its Request for Support to the Global Shield. Day two explored consolidated responses to priorities identified across Fiji, RMI, and Tonga, fostering regional alignment.
The outcomes from the workshop included a validated stocktake report and a list of solutions to bridge identified gaps. Workshop findings also included recommendations to emphasize regional approaches to enhance efficiency and avoid duplication, forming the foundation for support requests by lead ministries in Fiji, RMI, and Tonga.
The regional workshop amplified PCRIC’s collaboration with Fiji and the Global Shield, paving the way for scalable solutions, and highlighting its commitment to delivering rapid parametric insurance for Pacific Island nations.
