PCRIC Advances Drought Policy Development in RMI
17 February 2026At the conclusion of PCRIC’s 2026 Pacific Regional DRF Workshop held in Suva, Fiji, regional participants and partners alike agreed that the initiative had become an essential element in maintaining the momentum of efforts to build regional DRF capacity.
Co-organised with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) supported by Japan’s JFPR, and the UK’s Centre for Disaster Protection (CDP), Global Shield, the Pacific Community (SPC), and REAP, the annual workshop again demonstrated PCRIC’s leadership role in regional DRF development, drawing global expertise into the region to advance practical understanding of DRF instruments and promote technical collaboration among its member countries.
With a clear emphasis on elevating DRF management capability across the region, the multi-day workshop provided a comprehensive platform for dialogue across the full DRF agenda—from strategic policy development and risk analytics, to financing instruments, post-disaster disbursement mechanisms, and long-term capacity building.
Speaking at the wrap-up of the workshop PCRIC CEO, Mr. Aholotu Palu, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to reaching every regional island nation with affordable, pre-arranged financial instruments to strengthen resilience to the financial impact of disaster and climate shock.
Acknowledging the contributions made by partner entities, the CEO expressed gratitude for their continued support and shared commitment to protecting lives, livelihoods, and development gains across the region. He went on to highlight the value of input and enquiry from regional practitioners whose high level of engagement undoubtedly ensured the success of this year’s event and reinforced intentions to continue with similar workshops in the future.
