PCRIC Joins Global Risk Pools at Climate Risk Dialogue
22 February 2026PCRIC has taken a landmark step in advancing regional disaster resilience with the launch of its inaugural Scholarship Programme, which was widely promoted across the Pacific.
Designed to cultivate the next generation of Pacific leaders in disaster risk financing (DRF), the initiative focuses on building both scholarly excellence and real-world capability.
Developed in close partnership with the University of the South Pacific (USP) and with technical and financial support from the Global Shield Solutions Platform (GSSP), the programme reflects a shared commitment to strengthening local capacity. The first cohort of students has now been selected, marking the beginning of a new chapter in regional DRF leadership.
The programme was recently showcased before major development partners and national representatives at a regional DRF workshop in Suva, where it received accolades for its innovative and proactive approach to knowledge development.
Expressing pride in the initiative, the PCRIC CEO stated: “Sovereign capability to meet the financial challenges of climate and weather-related disasters is not optional; it is essential for safeguarding development gains and ensuring budget stability.”
