Underscoring the importance of the momentum created by years of engagement with Tonga’s Ministry of Finance, PCRIC’s Finance and Planning Manager, Mr. Henry Cocker, recently held an introductory meeting with Tonga’s newly appointed Minister of Finance, Hon. Lata Tangimana.
Briefing the Minister on Tonga’s long-term membership of PCRIC, discussions had a particular emphasis on continued collaboration, addressing alignment of financial protection mechanisms with government priorities and noting PCRIC’s regional education and technical capacity initiatives.
Aimed at building local capacity through deeper understanding of DRF tools and parametric insurance among national policymakers and practitioners, the Minister was particularly pleased to learn that a Tongan national had been selected as one of three scholarship recipients to commence tertiary studies in DRF at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus in Fiji this year.
The Minister acknowledged PCRIC’s ongoing commitment to developing tailored, sustainable DRF strategies and solutions for the nation and agreed to maintain regular dialogue into the future.
