PCRIC Attends IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings
17 April 2026Recent forums in Thailand and PNG brought particular focus to the urgent need for effective disaster risk financing (DRF) solutions to protect infrastructure and urban communities across the Pacific.
The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) and the Pacific Urban Forum, allowed PCRIC to showcase its innovative DRF tools, emphasising rapid payouts and people-focused policy design that directly address urban vulnerabilities.
Discussions underscored strong synergies between PCRIC’s mandate and the priorities of UN ESCAP and UNDRR, opening pathways for closer collaboration. The combination of PCRIC’s regional expertise and UN partners’ global reach represent a sound foundation for development of disaster risk management mechanisms which best reflect the needs and priorities of the Pacific nations, strengthening resilience and protecting hard-won development gains.
An early sign of the positive impact such collaborations deliver is seen in the release by the UN ESCAP Sub-Regional Office for the Pacific of the Policy Brief: ‘Insuring the Future: Innovative Risk Financing for Resilient Cities and Sustainable Infrastructure’, to which PCRIC made a key contribution. The brief aims to present to government decision-makers and regional stakeholders actionable recommendations to strengthen insurance as a driver of climate-resilient development across the region in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9, 11 and 13.
