Our Purpose

is to equip Pacific Island nations with the tools, knowledge and opportunity to become more resilient to the financial impact of catastrophic natural and climate disasters.

Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS):

Recognised as the foremost representative of the Pacific Island nations’ collective political and economic ambitions and endeavours, PIFS has a long-held interest in the impact of climate change and natural disasters on member countries. PIFS stands as a long-valued partner with PCRIC, contributing significantly through its role in convening political dialogue and knowledge exchange.
This partnership deepened further with ‘Observer’ status being awarded to PCRIC, enabling our inclusion in a wider range of policy and technical fora. This has been a significant progressive step toward the full ‘regionalisation’ of PCRIC’s work. It greatly enhances opportunities for cooperation and collaboration with other CDRFI initiatives and programs operating across the region.

Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC):

SPC is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region. SPC made a major contribution to the World Bank PCRAFI program, which resulted in the creation of PCRIC, by utilising their risk assessment expertise to develop the Pacific Risk Information System (PacRis), This is a geospatial data management platform which provides a central repository for national and regional hazard and exposure data. This data is utilised in the insurance modelling that PCRIC undertakes as part of its insurance product development process.

World Bank / Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery:

A joint program of the World Bank and GFDRR, the Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance Program was established to improve the financial resilience of governments, businesses, and households against natural disasters. The DRIFP supports governments to implement comprehensive financial protection strategies, and brings together sovereign disaster risk financing, agricultural insurance, property catastrophe risk insurance, and scalable social protection programs. It also helps governments work with the private sector to facilitate public-private partnerships. PCRIC receives valuable support from the DRIFP in areas of product development and policy design.
