As an original contributor to the capitalisation of PCRIC in 2016, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has continued as an important partner in the work undertaken by PCRIC for the benefit of the Pacific Islands nations.
Members of the PCRIC management team recently met with officials of the FCDO to continue dialogue on ways the UK might consider additional support in the future. A range of possibilities were discussed, and the opportunity taken to appraise the FCDO of recent developments in PCRIC’s disaster risk insurance policies; diversification into a wider range of market segments; ongoing efforts in education and capacity building; and the encouraging increase in Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Foundation membership and policyholders.
The update was well received and reaffirmed the value of PCRIC’s efforts to ensure that the small island nations of the Pacific region are better prepared and more resilient to the impact of ongoing climate and natural disasters.
