In response to a request from GIZ’s regional office in Suva, PCRIC CEO, Mr. Aholotu Palu, recently met Mr. Raphael Linzatti, Project Director for the Management and Conservation of Blue Carbon ecosystems in Pacific Island Countries (MACBLUE) project.
The meeting provided a welcome opportunity to explore options for provision of parametric insurance for mangroves and seagrass ecosystems as part of the MACBLUE project’s overall conservation efforts in Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
Cyclone is regarded as the biggest threat to coastal ecosystems and establishing a pathway to pre-arranged funding to assist with rehabilitation efforts subsequent to an event would be a major progressive step in the ongoing conservation process. Further discussions are planned to capture technical detail which will inform final product and policy design, and to consider opportunities for including collaboration on education and capacity building in the DRF space.
