The Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) Legal Advisor, Dr. Timothy Nielander, recently participated as a panelist at the inaugural Bermuda Climate Summit. Dr. Nielander also serves as the long-standing Legal Advisor for the African Risk Capacity (ARC), PCRIC’s sister risk pool organisation. His panel position at the climate summit was based on his renowned ARC role.
Climate thought leaders gathered for the two-day, invite-only climate summit. Bermuda famously known as the world’s risk capital, now seeks to establish itself as a world capital for climate risk finance.
In Dr. Nielander’s session, he shared his thoughts on Bermuda’s market potential and contributions to climate risk management. In support of his statement, he gave an example of Bermuda’s strength as an innovator where the ARC established a hybrid mutual insurance company in the country in 2013 to serve 35 African Union member states.
The summit concluded with the facilitation of the exchanging of ideas and opportunities for the world’s greatest climate change challenges, and Bermuda’s likely role in helping to mitigate its global effects. Congratulations to Dr. Nielander for helping to further influence the world’s evolution of climate risk finance.
