Last week, the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) CEO Mr. Aholotu Palu met with the Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni. The two discussed the country’s current disaster risk policy along with future opportunities for Tonga to pool their risks with other forum countries.

In a first for the Pacific region, a disaster risk finance (DRF) symposium was held in collaboration between the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the Pacific Resilience Partnership DRF Technical Working Group with the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) being a key partner.

The Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) was thrilled to have the CEO Mr. Aholotu Palu speak at the Island Finance Forum 2022 hosted by Island Innovation. The Forum aimed to highlight the unique financial challenges faced by global island communities and the solutions for sustainable economic development and inclusive growth in a post-pandemic world.

The interns of the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) were all smiles as they proudly received their certificates of completion and awards from the CEO, Mr. Aholotu Palu. Also, in attendance at the presentation was the University of the South Pacific Student Association Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Aneet Kumar.

It was certainly a proud moment for the interns of the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) as they presented their project proposals to the Chair and Directors at their recent Board Meeting.

An impressive delegation of Pacific-based Finance leaders and key development partners recently convened at a 4-day Pacific Regional Debt Conference titled, “Addressing Debt Sustainability in the Pacific in the Aftermath of COVID-19.”

Earlier this week, the PCRIC team participated in a special media briefing as a critical partner in the disaster risk finance (DRF) arena. The session was led by Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the Ministry of Economy Fiji, focusing on introducing and educating the media on the fundamentals of DRF.

At the recent University of the South Pacific and World Bank seminar titled ‘Towards Inclusive Economic Recovery in the Pacific’, PCRIC positioned its question on an often missing key ingredient towards recovery and resilience, namely education.
